The view from one chalk eminence towards another. The distant hill is Cherhill Down [pron: 'Cherrel'], which at 262m is of almost equal height to Hackpen, and also has a monument close to the summit, this being the Lansdowne Obelisk erected around 1845, and which when I was young was supposedly in a dangerous condition and out of bounds. It's still there.
