Blyth End, Warwickshire

Entrance to the Whitacre Waterworks site

Uploader's Comments

Now run by Severn Trent, the site was originally opened by the Birmingham Water Company in the 1870s to extract water from the Bourne and the Blythe, for public drinking purposes. This required the construction of boiler houses and pumps to clean and move the water. Many of the original buildings from that period remain on site, carrying a Grade II* listing https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101265889-waterworks-at-whitacre-pumping-station-filter-house-water-well-and-superintendents-office-shustoke#.WnR8KNSLTGg, but are not generally accessible to the public. The steam engines, sadly, have gone.
