These stumps present a bit of a puzzle. They appear to be from very large trees which, for their size, were growing very close together. The most likely explanation is that, adjacent to the cycleway on the left, there is a 6 foot high fence, and this appears to surround a private garden which must have been very overshadowed by these trees.
