Hambledon Hill is known to have been occupied since Neolithic times, but the great ramparts seen here are part of a typical Iron Age hill fort - and a very impressive one. The people who built this fort certainly had an eye for a defensive site - below the ramparts the ground falls away steeply to the west, north and east. I reached it by one of the gentler routes, from the south - quite a slog on a warm day, and quite steep enough in places, thankyou !
