The woodland tract in the valley is named Fishpond Spinney, and together with the name of the farm indicate that this was once a monastic grange, an outlying farm. The bridge crosses not only the stream, but also the site of the former Holwell Mineral Railway, built to carry the ironstone from local quarries.
