The 'heights' is a relatively lowly ridge just west of the very popular tourist haunt of Tarn Hows. Even Wainwright ignored the fell and few make the easy climb up to enjoy the fabulous views. Just across the valley are the wooded flanks of Holme Fell overtopped by the bulky Wetherlam and Old Man of Coniston (left). Even here at 269m there is a bitter north wind keeping temperatures down.
