Wigton.-- market town, par., and township with ry. sta., Cumberland, 11¼ miles SW. of Carlisle - par., 12,021 ac., pop. 5190; township, 3141 ac., pop. 3750; town, 775 ac., pop. 3948; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks, 1 news-paper. Market-day, Tuesday. Wigton has mfrs. of ginghams and winceys, but the district is mainly agricultural. Among other buildings is a Roman Catholic church with a convent and orphanage. In the market place is a very fine memorial fountain.
