Ann's Cross stands where the medieval road Calverleygate joins Stonecrossgate. The now rough tracks were known later as the Pannierman's Causeway, which continued past Louvan Howe,Lillia Cross and on to Hackness.Positioned in the middle of an excavated tumulus on Foster Howes Rigg, the cross joins a line of boundary stones along the rigg marking the boundary of Whitby Strand.
