Whiteside Pike, Cumbria

Engraved stone, summit cairn of Whiteside Pike

Set into [[5339077]]. It reads: 'The parishes of Fawcett Forest Whitwell & Selside met here 28.8.2000'. Rather an odd statement as the summit of the pike is wholly within the parish of Whitwell and Selside. Perhaps, people from both parishes decided to put the stone here as a millennium commemoration? It is interesting to see how much lichen has colonised the stone over the last 15 years [[259151]].
