Just beyond the area of sedges can be seen the circular outline of an old shaft top, one of several in a line extending down the hillside. A disused level is in line with these at the bottom of the hill. These would have been lead workings, close to the easternmost limit of the Swaledale ore fields, and judging by the lack of spoil around here, probably a largely unsuccessful effort at finding quantities of galena. The view is across lower Swaledale towards the wooded side valley of Oxque Gill.
