Limekiln Wood on the edge of the parish of Catterick occupies an old Magnesian Limestone quarry. It is a self planted wood, mostly filled with sycamores and some ash trees. It is now used by motorcross bikes, and a key can be obtained from a nearby cottage to open the gate. The risk that is to be faced, is quite unsuspecting, and comes at you from above (as I found to my cost); as a local Buzzard has taken to dive bombing any visitors to the wood!
