Thornton Reservoir, Leicestershire

Thornton Reservoir

Uploader's Comments

Looking west across the reservoir to Thornton village and the spire of St Peter's Church. This 75-acre reservoir was built in 1854 to supply water via its own treatment works. It is now managed by Severn Trent and water is treated a few miles downstream at Cropston Reservoir (see [[1476368]]). Since 1997 the reservoir has been open to the public. Facilities include a small visitor centre and cafe, a sculpture trail, a woodland walk and a game fishery with boat hire.
