The viewpoint is from the lay-by pictured recently by David P Howard http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1719257 The lay-by is an official parking area and signed as such on the approach to it from the north. The surface is in a shocking state and care is needed to negotiate the potholes. I'd guess it was the original A429 until this section was re-aligned at some time. Returning to this image, the sheep are in a triangular field bounded in part by the Thelsford Brook marked by the line of trees behind the sheep.
