The view north westwards from the top of the steep edge known as The Scar in Park Wood. This was originally a landscaped area belonging to Gilling Castle, and close by this point there was once a 'temple', of which nothing remains except a few scattered bricks. This would seem an ideal spot for a whimsy such as a temple, so that visitors could enjoy the splendid view which is towards White Horse Bank and Byland Abbey.
