The Lake, North Yorkshire

Studley Park Lake

Uploader's Comments

Or maybe lack of lake when this photograph was taken, due to the ongoing works to dredge the lake and make other improvements. The photo is taken from the intended site of the Aislabie's mansion, which was never built, and gives a view over the lake to the canal beyond. Current restoration at the lake has included the removal of the silt island and the restoration of the left hand bank where there was originally a carriage drive. From this viewpoint there is a symmetry to the scene, an important feature of early 18th century landscaping.
