Access Lock for Surrey Water

Uploader's Comments

This lock, built in the 1840's to provide access to Surrey Basin from the Thames, is no longer in use - a fact that the enterprising Coot in the foreground has put to use in building her nest. The bascule bridge at the far end carries Rotherhithe Street over the tidal inlet to the Thames.
