Tedham Moss is an area of bog above the east side of East Allendale. The foreground water is held in a slot created by the cutting of peat blocks to dam a drainage channel; this is a process to rewater moorland drained in earlier times (1950s - 1980s), when grants were available to cut artificial drainage channels or 'grips' as they are known. However in the opinion of the photographer it's possible that a minor error has been made here and the blocked drainage channel was not man-made, but a perfectly natural one!
