Some, looking at these undulating root structures, may be reminded of WW1 paintings by the war artist, Paul Nash. Although the planting is more spacious than that in exclusively Spruce plantations, it is still not easy to walk through, and yet this is the only way of reaching the Loch from the nearby road. Since there is official car parking in the vicinity, one would have expected a footpath - cf. the extensive facilities around Penninghame Pond, elsewhere in the same forest.
