Christened SS Sinclair Texas at Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point Yard, Baltimore for the Sinclair Oil Co. She was renamed in July 1981 then transferred to the Maritime Administration in December 1987 and is one of Military Sealift Command's two US Government-owned tankers and is part of the 35 ships in the Prepositioning Program. The ship can deliver 257,000-barrel of JP-5 fuel from up to four miles offshore through its integrated offshore petroleum discharge system.
