An invasive weed, brought into the Tweed woollen mills on New Zealand fleeces have colonised the dune systems south of Tweedmouth. Over a hundred new plant species were recorded along the Tweed at one time due to the textiles industry but few survived. This pest is one of them. The burrs, made of many seeds stick to everything and must have evolved for animal distribution in a land without mammals.
