Managed by the Woodland Trust since 1997, Bitholmes Wood consists of 70 acres of mainly sycamore woodland interspersed with fragments of ancient oak. Coal seams were mined here during the last century and the area is home to the last remnants of the Wharncliffe Red Deer herd.
