In contrast to the more or less flat grassy top of Butser Hill, a steep chalk escarpment to the north goes down to a narrow, steep-sided dry valley, This is Butser Hill's best landscape feature. Ramsdean Down is the name of the spur and Rake Bottom is the valley below.
