Jane Austen spent the first 25 years of her life in Steventon where her father was Rector for 40 years. Two of her brothers succeeded as Rectors and then her nephew who was Rector for 50 years until his death in 1873. She was born in the Rectory on 17th December 1775, the site of which was in this field until it was pulled down in 1823.
