This day-flying moth was seen resting on Thrift as I walked along the coast path between St.Justinian's and Pencarnan. The scientific name Callistege mi roughly translates as 'Beauty with letter m' referring to the 'm' marking on the underside of the hindwing. Early British entemologists named it the Shipton Moth, later Mask Moth because its upperwing markings resembled the face of the 15th Century Yorkshire soothsayer and prophetess Mother Shipton.
