Poll Garbh, Highland

Poll Garbh, Spean gorge

Uploader's Comments

Although kayakers have their own names for many features of white water rivers, this drop is not named in the guidebooks. The pool into which the paddler is dropping is, however, shown as Poll Garbh (rough hole) on the large scale map. Spean gorge is a useful river for paddlers, as it can be run at low water levels (as shown here) when most of the other rivers are out of condition. Lower doesn't mean easier, though, as it is quite tight and technical at this level, and may entail two or three portages (we managed with just two on this trip).
