Pentre-Evan Wood, Pembrokeshire

Ancient sunken lane leading to Hagr-y-coed

Uploader's Comments

In the C12 the woodlands here belonged to the estate of the barony of Cemaes and would have been used for hunting, timber, grazing and so on. This old lane is bounded by earth and stone banks in which beech trees have clamped their roots and grown up to form a canopy of branches: a man-made landscape has become a natural environment over the centuries.
