John Gifford, in his Pevsner guide to Dumfries & Galloway, notes a number of unusual 18th-century headstones. Behind the churchyard Durisdeer Hill rises to 569m; to its left, in the valley of the Kirk Burn, a Roman road ran towards the Dalveen Pass, linking Nithsdale to Clydesdale. The same route is followed by the Well Path, used by pilgrims to the shrine of St Ninian at Whithorn. http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/durisdeer/durisdeer/index.html
