The remains of a bridge which once carried the Hereford, Hay and Brecon Railway across the lane. The railway was opened in stages between 1862 and 1864 by the Hereford, Hay & Brecon Railway (HH&BR) who had acquired the Hay Railway, as part of their expansion strategy, in 1860. After various inter - company shenanigans, including a failed merger with the Brecon & Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway (B&MTJR), the Midland Railway took over the running of the line. This represented a useful handhold in a region more usually associated with their bitter rival, the Great Western Railway. The line was closed (along with all other lines serving Brecon) in 1962, just prior to publication of the Beeching report. Taken from the cab of my truck as I left a building site I'd just delivered to.
