As can be see the village sign was only erected in 2012 - some information on the Newchurch Village Sign Project can be seen at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Newchurch-Village-Sign-Project/108435179270523 A close up can be seen at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3397122 The horse at the top representing Kent, the church, the herons, the reedmace and the Romney Marsh sheep are all clearly representative of the village and surrounding area, but the plane is not so obvious. Newchurch was the home to an advance airfield during the Second World War.
