Nineteenth Century Benchmark on St. Botolph's Church

This benchmark was established in 1856 during the First primary levelling of England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 322.0910 feet [98.1733 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Coventry to Lincoln (Branch Line [from Stretton Toll House] to Rugby) levelling line. The surveyor's description was "No. 8. Bolt in North-east angle of tower of Newbold-upon-Avon Church; 2.50 ft. above surface." (Public Abstract p.331)
