Minehead, watering-place, par., and market town, Somerset, on S. shore of Bristol Channel, 8¼ miles NW. of Watchet and 24¾ miles NW. of Taunton by rail, 4581 ac. (590 water), pop. 1774; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Wednesday. The harbour is very safe, but does not receive much support from shipmasters. Minehead is a pleasant place, with excellent houses and good hotels, and is rapidly growing in favour with visitors; it has ample sands, fair bathing, and an interesting neighbourhood. Leather mfr. is the leading industry.
