Miller's Pool, Moray

There's always one daft one!

Behold the cock salmon in his breeding livery. He may have journeyed from as far afield as Greenland to return to the river of his birth. He will have entered the Spey perhaps months earlier as a "bar of silver" but he has changed. Note the elongation of the lower mandible. This is known as a "kype" and identifies the male of the species. I caught this specimen at 1120am on a fly known as "The Cascade Shrimp". After taking his picture he was released to the energetic waters of his birth. God Speed!
