Low Row Pasture, North Yorkshire

Green Sike from the NW

This view helps to illustrate the way in which most Swaledale farmhouses are built. Looking south east one sees the north side of the house and barns where there are no windows visible. All the main windows and doors will be on the south facing side of the building to make the most of the warmth from the sun. The building is one long structure combining house and barns with a fold yard to the front. This property has fallen on hard times due to its exposed position on the moor edge at 380m above sea level. Lower down the hillside there is limestone and better drained land.
