Beside the point where five lanes meet on Poulton Downs is a stone placed in memory of Charles H. Sorley, the WWI poet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Sorley. Two crosses with poppies on them, placed there in November last year, still remain; another poppy is pinned to the signpost.
