The hill of Ben Clach and the surrounding area was for a time a military training ground. An outlier of Ben Clach, Little Hill, lies above the B827 and on it's north-east side, from the B road, a hill road begins; this is the Tignablair Relief Road. (A plate on a boulder at its origin tells of the construction of the road by a military unit.) Here the road is seen climbing north-west not far from the B road.
