Knowles' Plantation, Kent

The old coal yard, Pluckley station

Uploader's Comments

Pluckley station opened on 1st December 1842 and is the last of the original South Eastern Railway wayside stations to survive on the London to Dover line. In fact it is one of the oldest station buildings in the country still in regular use. Originally the platforms were low, short and staggered, linked by a level crossing. Sidings on both sides were used for loading and unloading. The goods sidings were closed in 1965. This is the old coal yard next to the up platform, seen from the footbridge.
