The Ure above the falls

Uploader's Comments

At this point the smooth waters of the River Ure give way to rapids above the upper falls at Aysgarth. Over the next mile the Ure drops by some 50 metres through 3 waterfalls and a series of smaller rapids. The sudden drop is due to the overdeepening of the valley below Aysgarth by an active glacier which once ploughed its way down the side valley of Bishopdale. When the glacier melted the Ure was left 'hanging' above this deeper valley.
