Permissive footpath alongside Mare Lane

Uploader's Comments

This view is looking north along the permissive footpath through the strip of trees immediately to the west of Mare Lane. The Pilgrims Way trail used to follow the right of way along Mare Lane, and this permissive path means that the walker can avoid walking in the sunken lane itself (which has just been resurfaced). However, the footpath that used to continue the Pilgrims Trail towards Winchester at the end of Mare Lane has been diverted, which means that the trail would have required walking a few hundred metres west on the road along Hazeley Road. Instead a permissive route from SU50232442 (on the bridleway to Twyford Waterworks) to SU50032519 (the start of the diverted footpath north of Hazeley Lane) means that walking on Hazeley Road can be avoided.
