Hollow Pond on Leyton Flats

Uploader's Comments

Leyton Flats are part of Epping Forest and as such are owned and managed by the Corporation of London. Hollow Pond was originally dug as part of an unemployment project in 1905, and became a modern open air swimming pool in 1932 when it was called Whipps Cross Lido. This was closed in 1982 due to ongoing problems with water quality and vandalism. It is still a boating lake and, with nearby refreshment places, is a popular spot.
