Hill Top Farmhouse is a typical example of the Northern Pennines. It is both accommodation for the farmer and his family (in the house) and his animals (in the combined farm building). The farm building was originally a byre for animals at ground level and a hayloft at first floor level. This dates to the 18th century when the farmer and his family may have had other occupations - such as lead miner - at the same time. These are Grade II Listed Buildings protected by law.
