In pleaching individual trees are trained in a narrow vertical plane, almost like a hedge on stilts. The stilts are the tree trunks whilst the upward vigour is diverted sideways through intertwined branches that are kept rigorously trimmed. Hidcote is famed for its 'garden rooms.'
