By the A68 there is a tourist sign advising that the Scottish Border at Carter Bar is just a mile away. The loop in the road faciltates the crossing of two tributary becks of the River Rede. One crossing is at the cusp of the curve in the road (far right), the other (Hen Cleugh) is by the white van.
