An imposing frontage to a farmhouse at the southern edge of the tiny village of Hartforth, overlooking the shallow valley of Gilling Beck. The Gothick facade doesn't at first sight look modern, but is in fact a very recent building, and winner of the 2009 award for 'New building in a Georgian context'. The estate inherited by Sir Josslyn Gore-Booth Bt. having lost its original seat, now a hotel (Hartforth Hall), the original Home Farm was demolished and replaced by this design by Digby Harris of Francis Johnson and partners, which was a carefully considered response to the particular location and circumstances. The north-facing side of the building matches the Georgian farm buildings of the village whilst this facade was designed to make its own architectural statement when seen from the south in views in which both it and the original Hartforth Hall would be visible.
