Harecroft Field, Cambridgeshire

Growing kids to replace growing crops

Uploader's Comments

This field on Barton Road, Wisbech belongs to The National Trust and is part of the Peckover Estate. It's historical name is Small Meadow Field. It has been farmed by 3 generations of the Humphrey family and presumably farmed by others before them. However, this stubble field is soon to be ploughed and seeded with grass to create new playing fields for the adjoining private grammar school, thanks to the current benevolent tenant agreeing to give up his tenancy. It makes a change to the current trend of selling off playing fields for development. For a view of the field a year later see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3718852
