Hall Wood, North Yorkshire

The view from the garden at Crackpot Hall

Uploader's Comments

I'm not sure if the grassy enclosed area in front of Crackpot Hall could be described as a garden, but the view from it is superb and includes the gorge like valley of the Swale as it winds its way towards Muker. In their 1934 book on Swaledale, Pontefract and Hartley stated that chickens were not kept here as they were thought to pick up poisons from the lead as there are old mine tips all around the site.
