Gunnerside Gill: North Hush

Uploader's Comments

Gunnerside Gill, a northern branch of Swaledale has very extensive remains of the lead mining industry. Most impressive among the ramains are the hushes, created as water, collected by the creation of temporary dams was allowed to cascade down hillsides tearing away vegetation, soil and peat so as to expose mineral veins in the underlying rock. Certainly the most remarkable of the Gunnerside hushes is North Hush on its W. side.
