RAF Barkston Heath is used as a satellite landing ground by training aircraft from nearby RAF Cranwell. During the Second World War the airfield was used by the USAAF for troop carrier units and sent paratroops to both Operation Overlord and Operation Market Garden. The photo was taken through a gap in the hedge at the western end of runway 06/24.
