Firth of Clyde, Argyll and Bute

Royal Yacht Britannia Passing Rosneath

Uploader's Comments

Seen from the pier by Gourock Station, Britannia makes her way out along the Firth of Clyde. Built by John Brown & Co on the Clyde and launched on 16th April 1963, the vessel remained in Royal service until 1997 when she ferried home the Prince of Wales and Governor Chris Patten from Hong Kong after it was formally handed over to the Chinese Government. She did a farewell tour of the United Kingdom in 1998 before being retired to Leith Docks where she is a tourist attraction. Presumably Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was on her annual summer cruise to the Western Isles.
