These slopes are well seen by the traveller eastbound on the A40 between Bwlch and Crickhowell. A series of giant steps formed by alternating layers of resistant sandstone and weaker mudstones characterise this hill as much as any in the Black Mountains. Small quarries have been worked wherever the sandstones break the surface.
