Donkey Quarry - Flute Casts

Uploader's Comments

These are excellent turbidite sequence flute casts. Possibly the best exposure in the UK. They are part of the Gawthwaite formation (425ma, Silurian). These are shelf deposits which saw fast flows of sediment settle out into various grades. This is the bottom of a flow which scoured out the seabed (Iapetus) forming these features. They show the bed has been tilted by 90 degrees.
